KIIP Level 3 Test

I took KIIP Level 3 classes at Dong-gu Multicultural Center (near Banyawol Station) from May to August 2017. The classes were from 12:30 to 3:30PM every Monday, Thursday and Friday. We had the Level 3 test on the last day of the class. We were lucky that our teacher spent the last few meetings before the last day giving us mock exams so we can get used to the format.

The written exam had 20 multiple choice question that had to be answered within 30 minutes. The actual exam was actually harder than the mock exams we did. For the speaking part, we went by twos into another room where two examiners were waiting. 

There were 3 parts to the speaking test. The first part was reading comprehension. We had to silently read a text and the examiners asked us questions about it. The topic of the reading test was about a Cherry Blossom Festival somewhere in Korea. For the second part, we were presented with two pictures and were asked questions about it. The pictures during our exam were the two types of Hanok houses. We were asked to explain it and there were additional follow-up questions such as the traditional houses in our country. The third part was a situational conversation. There were two situations and we have to choose which one to use. The situation during our exam was buying tickets in a movie theater. My partner and I had to decide who will be the ticket clerk and who will be the customer. I would have to say that this was the hardest part for me. I took the part of the clerk and I really struggled with how to ask the questions. My partner said I did well but to be honest I was just trying to say something and did not really know if what I was saying is correct. 

I eventually passed Level 3 so some of what I have said may have made sense to the examiners. I was also laughing during the last part of the speaking test because I was not sure if what I was saying was correct. I was told after that one should not laugh during the exam but I think laughing helped me to not freak out during the test.
